Shell cùng với Choren Industries, Đức đã xây dựng nhà máy sản xuất thí điểm dầu diesel từ vụn gỗ và rơm với công suất 15 ngàn tấn/năm (BTL: Biomass to Liquid). Công nghệ sử dụng sẽ dựa trên quá trình Fischer-Tropsh, chuyển hóa synthesis gas (CO+H2) thành dầu diesel. Đây được xem là quá trình sản xuất nhiên liệu trong tương lai, sử dụng nguồn nguyên liệu rẻ và dồi dào.
